Splurge vs Steal - Blazer/Jacket Edition

I wanted to start doing a "splurge vs steal" segment on the blog because I've seen it on other blogs and I think it's so helpful in finding pieces you'll love at prices you can afford. As you will soon come to know, I am OBSESSED with blazers and jackets. Seriously. I have wayyyy too many but I just can't stop buying them! You'll see a lot of them on the blog during this time of year. I figured what better topic to start my SvsS posts than this! Below are some of my favorite styles at prices that will suit any budget:

SPLURGE - Nordstrom Utility Jacket                                                   STEAL - Kohl's Military Jacket

SPLURGE - Theory Blazer                                                          STEAL - Target Blazer

SPLURGE - McGinn Jacket                                                                  STEAL - TJ Maxx Jacket

SPLURGE - Citizens of Humanity Jacket                                               STEAL - GAP Denim Jacket

Floral Blazer

Whenever I have to get an outfit together for work, I always try to think of how I can jazz up business casual. Working in the beauty industry gives me some fashion leeway, if you will. Fashion goes hand-in-hand with beauty, so I'm able to get away with some more fashion-forward looks for the office and I definitely try to take advantage of that! I was in Portland on a business trip at the beginning of August and found this blazer at a Fred Meyer (if you can believe that). I love the fun and bright colors, plus it fits like a glove! I paired it with my all-time favorite handbag and some dainty gold jewelry to look polished and stylish.

Blazer: Fred Meyer (not available online but this one is pretty and i love this one and this one is super similar) // White Tee: Target// Pants: Gap // Shoes: Target (old but you can find them here) // Bag: Prada // Necklace: ILYCouture // Arrowhead Bangle: Shop Pretty Pants c/o // Pave Cuff: J.Crew (old but this is similar) // Arrow Ring: Baublebar // Cage Ring: Forever 21

2014 Emmys Red Carpet

Did y'all catch the Emmy red carpet last night? And when I say red carpet, I mean RED. It seems like everyone was wearing shades of red or pink! As many gorgeous looks as there were, there were also a few misses. Check out my best and worst dressed attendees:

 Heidi Klum in Zac Posen
Can I just say, I (usually) always love Heidi. She's not afraid to take risks and isn't afraid of color and print. However, here, in sleek lines and a solid color, she kills it. Such a flattering dress and the loose waves complete it perfectly.

 January Jones in Prabal Gurung
January is gorgeous and she is glowing in this red hi/lo stunner. Prabal Gurung has such an eye for texture and lines and this gown is no exception. The strappy shoes are a perfect fit and give the right amount of "wow" as they peek out from under the dress.

 Julia Roberts in Elie Saab
Wow. Just wow. I think this dress was my favorite dress of hers since her menswear-inspired look last year (which received mixed reviews but I loved it). The short dress is so unexpected and the cut of this is perfect on her. I can't say enough about how absolutely gorgeous this dress is. So I won't even try. But she's perfection.

Michelle Dockery in Rosie Assoulin
I don't watch Downton Abbey, but I may have to start. I love the colors in this dress and the fit is so flattering. The sleek hair and minimal makeup and jewelry really lets the dress do the talking for her. So polished, pretty, and feminine.

Sarah Paulson in Armani Prive
Yikes. This looks like a ladybug got electrocuted. I know she's on a horror show, but that doesn't mean she has to carry that to the red carpet. Maybe without the crazy overlay this dress could have been flattering, but there is way too much going on here. Maybe next time, Sarah.

Sarah Silverman in Marni
Not a good night for Sarah's on the red carpet. Too much boobage here. The color is drab and and the belt looks cheap. The only smokin' she'll be doing in this dress is out of the thing she pulled out of her purse.

Amanda Peet in Marchesa
Aw, Amanda. I usually really like you. This matronly frock is doing nothing good for your darling baby bump. Seriously, is this Laura Ashley?! Also, this semi-sumo hairdo is not working. I just can't get behind this look. (I still love you, though!)

Who were your favorites? Least favorites?

Birthday Dress

August 25th marks my 27th birthday. I can't believe another year has flown by! 26 was by far the best year of my life. We bought our new home, we got married, we went to Europe, and had so many other day-to day-experiences that made my life so, so full of love and adventure. On Sunday, I had a gathering of a few good friends to celebrate and I am in love with this Milk + Honey Boutique dress I scored on sale when I was in Dallas in July! I can't wait to see what this year has in store for me!

Dress - Milk + Honey Boutique (old) - love this and this  // Clutch - GiGiNY // Shoes - Avenue (old) - these are cute // Watch- Michael Kors // Tassel Bracelet - Cathryn Ann Designs c/o // Belt - Target // Arrow Ring - baublebar // X Ring - Forever 21 (old) - obsessed with this one // Earrings- Boutique (old) - these are gorgeous
