Top 10 Favorite Looks from 2015

Happy New Years Eve!! Like I shared my favorite travel snapshots yesterday, today I wanted to share some of my favorite looks from the year. This was a tremendous year of blogging for me, from being featured in a lookbook, walking in a fashion showbeing on the news, and growing Thread to where it is today, not to mention hosting countless events and collaborating with amazing brands! I wanted to thank you guys for consistently coming back here and engaging with Nines to 5! I did this last year and thought it was really fun to revisit looks from throughout the year. This is also a good way to see how much my blog has evolved since it started, both with my style and the photography. Which of these was your favorite?!

Floral Skirt - I will forever love the shape of this skirt! I even remixed it here.

Cobalt + Citron - This bold color combination was kind of out of the box for me.

Blue Floral Dress - This affordable dress was a staple for me over the summer.

Leather on Leather - This look is chic and fierce but also totally wearable!

Gray + Cognac - This was one of my favorite fall looks ever.

Tile Skirt + Vest - This was another great look from the fall.

Blush + Gray - This color combo is one of my all-time favorites.

Blanket Scarf - You know I was going to include this one!

Bundled Up - This was slightly out of my comfort zone but I loved how it fit and felt!

Holiday Style - A tulle skirt and a pop of red. Doesn't get more festive than that!

2015 Travel Diary

2015 was an amazing year of travel for us. We took a lot of great trips and checked a few things off our bucket lists! I thought I'd share some photos and memories from all the places we visited. I feel so fortunate that I get to travel as much as I do, as it is one of my biggest passions in life. If you have any questions on any of these places, feel free to email me or leave a comment! I hope you enjoy these photos!

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - Every year in February my company has a week long conference and this year it was in Palm Beach, FL! I fell totally in love with the resort we stayed at.

INDIA - In February, Mike and I went on the trip of a lifetime to India and visited Mumbai, Jaipur, Delhi, Agra, and Pune. There's too many photos to share here, but see all the posts hereherehereherehere, and here!

MEXICO - In March, I went to Riviera Maya to see two of our closest friends get married! It was a stunning location and an amazing weekend! See the posts herehere, and here.

CHICAGO, IL x 4 - I made a few trips back home this year, but probably the most memorable were for my 10 year High School reunion and then when I surprised my girlfriends at their holiday party! I'm really lucky to still be close with all my friends from grade school, and we had a blast together this year.

PORTLAND, OR x 3 - I travel to Portland a lot for work and I always have an amazing time there. I absolutely love the city and everything it has to offer. Check out this post for more details on my trips.

AUSTIN, TX - Austin is arguably my favorite city in the US. My sister and her family live there so we go often to visit. This year's visit was full of amazing food and fun. See the posts hereherehere, and here.

COLUMBUS, OH x 2 - I have family in Columbus and this year the Chaulk family reunion was actually held there so we made the trip twice to see our families!

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - I went back to my old stomping grounds (I lived in MN for 1.5 years) for one of my good friends' weddings. It was a beautiful weekend and nice to see old friends. See the post here.

BALTIMORE, MD - Mike's mom and stepdad live an hour in between Philly and Baltimore so when we go visit them, we usually spend some time in either city. This trip, we spent a day in Baltimore exploring the harbor and eating amazing food. We also spent some time in both Pennsylvania and Delaware that weekend so check out all the posts herehere, and here.

GATLINBURG, TN - Mike and I took a weekend getaway to Gatlinburg and had the best time. We went in the heart of fall and the colors were beyond gorgeous. It's less than a 4 hour drive and I had never been so we took advantage of a free weekend to go explore and I definitely want to go back! See more of our trip here.

Cheers to more travel and adventures in 2016!

New Years Eve Style + Link-Up!

Today I'm teaming up with Laura + Erin to bring a NYE-inspired linkup! My look combines a lot of my favorite elements, like statement pieces (my blouse + shoes), a smart piece (my blazer), and a feminine piece (my clutch). All of this paired with a bold red lip was the perfect look for a holiday party with friends. I also changed up my part which ended up giving me waves reminiscent of old Hollywood. This look would be great for a fun NYE party, or even just a dinner date around the holidays. Gold and black is classic and never goes out of style. I love putting together looks like this for the holidays that are both festive yet not too over-the-top. How do you mix up your holiday looks? Link up yours below so we can see!

One Vest, Six Ways

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend with their loved ones. When I was hitting publish on this photo, I realized just how much I wear this vest! I had done a "one piece, five ways" post before, and loved being able to show different ways to wear one item. I always am getting comments from my readers that they love how versatile I prove this vest is. As I was thinking about that, I thought it might be beneficial to round up a lot of (if not all) of the ways I've worn this one piece, so you can get ideas on how to really get the bang for your buck from this item. So, without further ado, here are some of my favorite ways I've worn the infamous herringbone vest. I'm also going to link some dupes since this exact one always seems to sell out. That way you can still create these looks if you like any of them, or even use some holiday money/gift cards to snag one for yourself!

SPORTY - add your favorite sports teams shirt under the vest for a gameday-ready look. // SHOP

COLD WEATHER COZY - bundle up in a beanie + boots.

BUSINESS CASUAL - wear a smart shirt + colored trousers for an office-ready look. // SHOP

RUNNING AROUND TOWN - add the flats + scarf to ensure you'll be good for a while out. // SHOP

MONOCHROME - mix gray + black elements for a chic and color-coordinated look. // SHOP

DRESSY - layer on the vest over a dress + fancy shoes for a fun yet wearable look. // SHOP

Last Minute Christmas Decor Ideas

I know I said this post was my last before the holidays, but I wanted to share a special bonus post today for good reason. If you know me well, you know I do not procrastinate. Ever. It gives me anxiety. I'm the girl that's always 15 minutes early and has her Christmas shopping done in October. We're hosting my in-laws for Christmas this year and I totally thought I was on top of my game, as I usually am. However, as I was getting things together, I realized our house didn't really feel overly festive, which is what I was hoping for. So, true to form, I made a mad dash to bring the festive level up a notch in our house. I wanted to share because I used some ideas that were super simple and totally changed the mood in the house. If you're a procrastinator, or just stumped on how to get things feeling Christmas-y both quickly and inexpensively, hopefully these tips help you! Merry Christmas Eve Eve (anyone obsessed with F*R*I*E*N*D*S like me?)!

1.) Get creative with stockings -- We don't have a fireplace (tear), so I had to come up with a different way to display our stockings. I used these hooks on our bookcase so that I could hang the stockings there. The hooks looked a little festive on their own, which helped pull everything together. I used gold glitter pens to personalize the stockings, which was a fun and thoughtful touch. To accompany the stockings on our faux "mantle", I added in a nutcracker, some gold candlesticks, and a marquee letter for some light.

2.) Display Holiday cards in a unique way -- Our fridge is already covered in wedding invitations, ticket stubs, family photos, and takeout menus. The last thing it needs is the added weight of 25+ holiday cards. I saw Katey use her sea urchin as a holder and I thought it was genius. I immediately grabbed mine out of our bookcase and filed in card after card. Not only is it cute and creative, I can easily see all my loved ones at once. PS - how adorable are our nieces and nephews?!

3.) Create your own centerpiece -- When I saw this setup, I knew I wanted to recreate it. I knew I could easily find green and white flowers at my grocery store, so I picked up a few bundles. Once arranged in a vase, I added in these berry twigs which I found at the dollar store. The whole thing looks super festive and fancy, but was really cheap and easy to create. I put it on my favorite marble lazy susan with a candle and some candlesticks to finish off the arrangement.

4.) Use presents as decor -- I know. Our tree is hilariously small. But, it was our first tree together when we started dating, and five Christmas' later, it just didn't feel right to replace it! We said we'll get a big, real tree once we have kids, but for now this is perfect for us. Since it's so small, it can feel a little dinky in our big family room. Once we added some gifts, it instantly felt more festive and cozy. I've also collected ornaments over the years, so it's a good mix of mementos from our youth as well as pieces we've gotten together as a couple. Your tree is really what you can make your own so have fun with it!

I hope these suggestions helped! Have a very Merry Christmas!!
