2016 Year In Review

There's a special post today in lieu of the normal Friday Finds. Now that NYE is tomorrow [but, how?], I wanted to share some of my favorite posts from the year. I did this last December and had such a blast walking down memory lane. While this year was quite eventful and unexpected at times, it was a year I'll definitely never forget. The posts below are a mix of pre-pregnancy outfits, bump looks, baby updates, and post-baby bliss. It is quite apparent this was the year of dresses for me! I hope you enjoy these as much as I do. Now listen up 2017, you better be incredibly good to all of us!

January - I absolutely love blush paired with winter whites!

February - This dress was one of my favorite purchases of the year!

March - This longline vest is the perfect topper for any LBD.

April - This off0the-shoulder number made me feel like the red dress lady emoji! Fun fact - I was SO sick during this shoot. Early pregnancy hyperemesis was in full swing.

May - This was quite possibly my favorite bump look of the (short) time I was able to shoot pregnancy outfits.

June - This was during our trip to Austin. While the trip didn't turn out as planned, I loved this striped look I wore to Franklin BBQ.

July - This was what I wore to one of my baby showers in Chicago. I felt so pretty in this!

August - I shot this right before my water broke so it was really the only outfit post I got up in August. When life hands you lemons, eh?

September - Dillon's arrival.

October - This was my first post-partum shoot!

November - I love, love, love this look. The pretty florals and edgy leather are a match made in heaven in my book.

December - This look is fun, edgy, feminine, and classic. Everything that my style encompasses (so I like to think)!

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend! See you on the other side.

Easy Layers

As I get older, I feel my style transitioning to a more neutral place. As seen here, here, and here, I have been loving keeping things more muted and classic. This ruffle hem sweater totally pleases my subtle palette and it's under $25! I paired it with my favorite ripped skinnies to keep the look relaxed but still polished.  I wore this to brunch in OTR with my family over Christmas and loved how it came together. I'll be wearing this sweater again with both leggings and boyfriend jeans and can't wait to dress it up and down.

Baby Products I Wish I Would've Bought Sooner

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend with their loved ones! We had a blast celebrating Dillon's first Christmas and he got WAY more presents than a 10 lb being should! Seeing all his goodies got me in the mood to share some more things that are go-tos for us. I shared products that we were loving when we brought Dillon home but it's been a really long time since then so obviously our needs have changed a bit. Today I wanted to share some products that we cannot live without as of late that I was a little trigger-shy on. I held off on these items for one reason or another and I wish I hadn't! They've all become staples in our day-to-day routine so I thought I'd share the wealth (of knowledge I now have)! Do any of you mamas love of any of these items?!

1) Milk Snob Cover - Especially since Dillon is a preemie, we go above and beyond to protect him from germs. Even though he really only goes to the doctors, it's nice to shield him from the outside world as much as we can. I learned about these covers from Sarah and wish I would've had one right off the bat! The best part about them is that they can pull double-duty as a nursing cover if that's part of your routine, too. They come in a ton of cute prints and I probably should buy a few more.
2.) RockaRoo - This was the product I was probably the most trigger-shy on. We have the rock n' play, which was a godsend when Dillon first came home. But soon enough, he grew bored of that. I finally caved on the RockaRoo and I'm glad I did. While I didn't go full out and get the MamaRoo, this does enough with the gliding motion, the brightly colored mobile, and the tunes. Be sure to order the insert too, though, because I could tell he was really uncomfortable without it! He tends to fall asleep in this and stay there for a good bit which helps me get some things done. Because of the incline, it's also good for his reflux.
3.) DockATot - This is another that I wanted from the get-go but couldn't justify the price. Once we got a few weeks into it and I realized how needy Dillon was when it came to bedtime, I wanted to give it a go. I'm SO glad I did! This product is truly amazing. He sleeps in this thing literally anywhere. On the couch, in our bed, in his crib. It's amazing. He also looks super cute all cozy in it! I highly recommend it. If you're on the fence, trust me you'll get the use out of it.
4.) Play Mat - This playmat is so soft, cuddly, and cute! I waited on this because I didn't think he would need it so soon, but it ended up being great for tummy time and gave him something to do during the day. He can swat the toys on the lower end so that keeps him occupied. It matches our living room, too, which is a bonus!
5.) Baby Wearing Wrap - Wow, was this product a game-changer. Earlier on, Dillon was super needy and went through a phase of colic. That made for one tired mama. I literally couldn't put him down. Especially with his reflux, I was afraid he'd throw up the second he became horizontal. Once I got one of these wraps, I could get stuff done while he was able to stay upright. I'm not too sure why I waited on this, but I shouldn't have.
6.) Forehead Thermometer - This is one of those things that I was just truly clueless about. I had registered for an ear thermometer, but especially since Dillon is a preemie, his ear canals are just so little! The forehead thermometer is SO easy and noninvasive. It's definitely a must-have for any household with a new baby. It works on adults, too!

Holiday Outfit Ideas

Holiday party season is in full swing so I thought I'd take a trip down memory lane and share some of my favorite holiday outfits from the past. If you're looking to wear something new without breaking the bank, check out yesterday's post. But if you're looking to shop your own closet, I've got some inspiration for you here. I've worn everything from sequins to faux fur to tulle skirts so I really have a lot of options to share! I always want to look festive but still be comfortable so it's important to combine the two elements into my holiday looks. I'm curious to know which festive piece you guys turn to for the holidays. Leave a comment and let me know which look is your favorite and what you plan on rocking this season!

Thread Cincinnati x Finery

Thread Cincinnati's main mission is to work as a platform for local brands and businesses to connect wtih like-minded audiences to ours. We love working with folks in town who aim to please the ever-changing needs of this thriving city. Finery is an amazing new concept store in Cincinnati that brings dress rental to life. You're probably familiar with the more popular Rent The Runway, but Finery brings a brick-and-mortar option to the Queen City that allows you to try on dresses and accessories to curate your whole look in person. This eliminates the need to return ill-fitting garments and have the "oh shoot, the party starts in an hour and I have nothing to wear" dilemma. When Finery invited the Thread gals to model some dresses in their adorable storefront, we were elated. They have so many gorgeous options that we all had a hard time finding just one to wear! Next time you need a fancy dress (ahem, Christmas and New Years Eve parties!), head to Finery and let them dress you to the nines! Big thanks to Damon for these gorgeous photos of my favorite blogger babes.

and a little behind-the-scenes shot for you...

And Then There Were Three...

I wanted to share some photos that Tiernae took of our little family a few weekends ago! We never did a true newborn shoot due to his time in the NICU so now that he's bigger, we wanted to do newborn/family pictures. Even though Dillon is crying in most of them, we are so in love with these images that capture this early stage of his life. Lesson learned scheduling a shoot 30 minutes before his feeding time, ha! I actually love the photos we got of me feeding him his bottle, though. I know we will cherish these photos forever. Thanks so much to Tiernae for again capturing us so beautifully. If you're in the tri-state area, we cannot recommend her enough!
